Adrianna’s CHEMO CAFE February 1, 2011 Jason Schwartz sits with Adrianna Grace on Week 17 of treatment that Adrianna is going through treatment for Cancer

Summary & Transcript Below…

      1.        [00:00 → 05:32] Personal Journey Through Chemotherapy and Current Challenges

This opening segment features a heartfelt conversation between Adrianna and Jason, focusing on Adrianna’s ongoing battle with cancer and the physical and emotional challenges of chemotherapy. Adrianna describes her condition as fluctuating between “very good and very bad,” though she clarifies she has not been completely debilitated. The chemo regimen she is undergoing involves three drugs, and it significantly drains her energy, especially around treatment days.

A critical aspect of her treatment is maintaining adequate white blood cell counts to safely continue chemotherapy; her immune system is monitored closely. When her white cells dip too low, she receives neupogen shots to stimulate white blood cell production from her bone marrow. Despite these interventions, Adrianna recently contracted a virus, which compounded her fatigue and forced her to pause work temporarily to avoid worsening into pneumonia.

Adrianna’s work involves a specialized niche—setting up colon hydrotherapy centers for workshops and seminars, particularly for clients following an alkaline diet. She recounts an intense work episode that left her physically exhausted and vulnerable to illness. Despite these setbacks, she remains determined to try and return to work, with support from colleagues like Shelly, who has been covering for her as needed.

She shares that she is nearing the end of her chemotherapy course, having completed the sixteenth session out of twenty-four. Although worn down by the treatment, Adrianna emphasizes her survivor mindset and her commitment to enduring the process.

Towards the end of this segment, the conversation shifts to the emotional toll of cancer and chemotherapy. A friend’s discussion about recurrence statistics deeply unsettled Adrianna during a particularly vulnerable moment. She acknowledges the looming fear of cancer’s return and the necessity of developing a cancer-free lifestyle plan, but confesses she currently lacks the energy to fully engage with this.

Jason and others offer practical suggestions on how the community can support Adrianna, such as helping her organize her plans, acting as scribes to document her experiences, and encouraging her through small, manageable steps. Adrianna expresses a strong need for transcription help to capture her thoughts and materials from this period, hoping to use them for media outreach and advocacy.

      1. [05:32 → 09:07] Community Support and Future Opportunities

The dialogue broadens to emphasize the power of community and the network of people rallying around Adrianna. Jason mentions collaboration with Bodhi and the Doorway Into Light organization, as well as the reactivation of the Dream Makers Foundation, framing these as important sources of energy and support. The tone is optimistic, highlighting that Adrianna is not alone and that many are actively working behind the scenes to help her.

There is a lighthearted exchange about the dynamic between Adrianna and Jason, comparing themselves to classic comedic duos, which adds warmth and humor to the conversation.

Discussion then touches on upcoming opportunities for Adrianna to participate in conferences and speaking engagements, although Adrianna herself remains unsure of specific plans. Jason reassures her that efforts are underway to utilize nonprofits and resources to support her journey, underscored by the concept of “pro-noia” — the positive belief that people are conspiring to help rather than hinder.

Adrianna is invited to share a guided writing she has prepared, signaling a transition into a more introspective and reflective part of the session.

      1. [09:07 → 17:45] Emotional Reflection, Meditation, and Guided Writing

Adrianna opens up about the emotional complexity of nearing the end of chemotherapy. She describes a growing weariness and doubts about the treatment’s effectiveness but remains committed to completing all 24 sessions because they offer the best survival odds. She expresses nervousness about the “transition period” into survivorship, recognizing that resuming normal life — particularly earning an income — will be challenging.

Jason and Adrianna discuss the importance of community help during this phase, with gratitude expressed for support already received. They share hope that new projects and media exposure will emerge to include Adrianna and amplify her voice.

Adrianna reveals an internal motivation to reach out to influential platforms like Oprah Winfrey’s organization, seeking to share her story and work publicly. This potential collaboration is framed as part of a larger strategy to raise awareness and support for cancer survivors.

The conversation then shifts to the power of quiet time and meditation as tools for emotional wellbeing. Adrianna references an Oprah interview featuring Goldie Hawn and other authors studying the science of happiness. They emphasize that even brief periods of silence or meditation (as little as 2 to 10 minutes daily) can significantly enhance happiness and reduce stress. Adrianna admits that while meditation remains difficult at times, she now prioritizes sitting quietly each morning, finding it beneficial.

She proceeds to read a guided writing—a reflective, supportive message directed at herself, which underscores themes of inner strength, healing, and self-care. The writing advises her on practical and spiritual steps to maintain health during chemotherapy, such as eating simple, nourishing foods (greens, beets, kitchari), using the sauna, reading inspirational authors like Marianne Williamson, and journaling regularly.

The guidance encourages Adrianna to maintain clarity, professionalism, and peace in her demeanor, especially in her work environment, which has some spiritual influences. It acknowledges recent feelings of being “out of shape” but reinforces that improvement will come with commitment to self-care and restraint.

The writing also suggests a ritualistic approach to chemotherapy—blessing the treatment energetically to create a more healing experience. It concludes with encouragement to embrace the day and acknowledges the support system around Adrianna, reinforcing that she is not alone.

Jason closes the segment by thanking viewers for joining and encouraging a positive outlook, while reminding Adrianna to remain cautious and mindful of her health.

00:00

Thank you all for joining us. These are very personal moments and times, and your sharing like this is a real gift to everyone. And I’m very happy because it gives me a chance to come visit and see my friend Adrianna. Yeah, thanks so much for doing that, Jason. So you’re somewhere between very good and very bad, depending on the moment, and you’re going through chemo still, aren’t you?

00:29

Yeah, yeah. I wouldn’t say I’m going between very good and very bad. I never hit either. You know, very bad would be, you know, like being really laid out and not able to get up and, you know, be so weak. But I only have, you know, partway there of that kind of energy level. I’m low today because I had chemo yesterday and it was the three drug dose and

00:58

I feel like I’m just at the end of this whole phase of it, and so in a way it’s more tiring than less. So they’re trying to manage certain counts of red and white cells and other things? Is that what it’s about? Well, I need a certain amount of white cells to be able to have the chemo, and if they’re low, it’s

01:27

It means my immune system is low and they don’t want a chance giving me the chemo at that point because it could be really even more weakening. So they monitor it and I’ve been low over the past couple weeks. They’ve had to give me these what they call neupogen shots that

01:44

um stimulate the white blood cells to be pushed out from the bone marrow and so i have an extra i have an extra amount of that coming through each week that i do have the new pigeon shots and um yeah so that happened um this past week i caught a virus i tried to uh

02:11

take on a little work assignment that I had been offered because I thought it would be a good idea to earn some of my own money if I could. And it was doing something that I specialize in, which is setting up

02:24

um colon therapy centers in uh remote locations to be able to do them for groups and workshops and seminars and took a lot of energy and you were challenged to complete it i imagine yeah it what my butt it was dr robert and shelley young and they’re the alkaline diet people and they bring high-profile clients in and just

02:48

I jump 5,000 a week and put them through all kinds of stuff. And colon hydrotherapy on a regular basis is one of those things. So my specialty is setting that all up. So I got that opportunity through Shelly at the Temple of Peace. And I went ahead and negotiated the deal, set it up, and then started giving treatments. And by the end of the second day, I was on my butt. I couldn’t do it anymore.

03:15

I caught a virus and had to work really hard to build myself back up and not let it go into pneumonia. So right now I’m a week into taking a break from that and getting over the illness and having the chemotherapy. But they have work for me Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, including the teardown on Saturday. So I’m going to try and do it, you know, because it’s a work opportunity and I do feel better.

03:45

And if I’m able to do it, I will. And if not, Shelly will take over. Just like she did. She did this other past week. Yeah. So she did this whole past week. So I wouldn’t have to do it even though I was planning to do it. So that happened. So, and then I had my sixth to the last chemotherapy yesterday. So I only have five more of these. And, um…

04:16

You know, I’m just worn down by it, but I’m a survivor and I can tell that I want to make it through. And a friend of mine was talking to me on the phone yesterday while it was going on, asking me some real questions about what I was going to do after it and how I was going to support myself and stay alive. And he’s talking about statistics and it was upsetting to me during the chemo to hear about these things.

04:43

You know, they say that within 20 months of the time that you start your treatments, there’s a likelihood of recurrence. You know, so it’s like that wasn’t what I wanted to hear, you know, right as I’m still going through this chemo part. So I know I have to work hard to get my cancer-free lifestyle going and get my plan going, but I’m too tired.

05:09

tired to think about it yet, but I know it’s coming soon. I bet there are people out here who will reach forward and help in some ways. Can they help you organize and get some of your plan going and be kind to supporters of that? Yeah, I mean, probably. To positively encourage you and be your scribes in some cases, maybe you can.

05:32

put it out in little pieces like you might be able to do, and tie it all together. You guys can help in that. Come on. We’re going to start having you call me, or call Adrianna. What’s a good email address? AdriannaGrace at gmail.com. That’s still okay. AdriannaGrace at gmail.com. And while we’re on the subject… What do you mean, scribes? You know, let’s say someone took the words that you speak here.

05:57

on a tape and put it down. Oh yeah, I need a transcriber really bad because I’ve got all this material from this time and even before that. This is a good way to do it through tape and people with phones and things. But you could also have someone who regularly has you or you might make yourself available to her. Be able to do it 15 minutes, an hour, two hours. That would help a lot. It would also help probably

06:26

Get your stuff out into the media, which I know you want to do. And you can probably do it in conjunction with someone and have a real, like, regular thing. I can’t do everything. No, of course. But there are so many people with so much talent out there to help you. It’ll be a great time. Help both of you. And we’re going to work on all kinds of things.

06:48

I’m going to be working with Bodhi over at Doorway Into Light and his organization, but also especially the thing that we’ve got going on. So Dream Makers Foundation is now reactivated and you’re part of it. I am just on a high from it all and I hope to bring that energy to you. That’s really important.

07:10

You know, I’ve missed coming up here. This is the holiday season, and then Ed Fell was nice enough to come on and sit and share with you. But I can’t keep me away. I think you’re sort of like, I don’t know if we’re the Three Stooges, but we’re surely, maybe we’re not Abbott and Costello. Who are we? Laurel and Hardy. Laurel and Hardy, maybe Dean Lewis and Jerry. Jerry Lewis and Dean Lewis.

07:36

Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. I would think I’m more the Jerry Lewis guy. Yeah, Dean Martin, you’re pretty suave. Suave, yes. You’re suave. Yeah. So you’ve got some things going on. Have you been coordinating? I can tell from what I’m speaking to people that are around your circle that they’re thinking of having, you know, different conferences and things with you being one of the featured speakers. Is there good stuff going on? Well, I haven’t heard of it.

08:06

I’d say, well, good. Then you’ll hear about it. All right. I like that idea. You know, we have this organization, and it’s an umbrella for all kinds of things. So people want to do stuff and be able to use the resources that come from it in different ways, work with us as a nonprofit. So there are things that people are doing in your behalf that you’re going to be seeing. That makes me happy. Peter Rosen called it pro-noia. That’s sneaking suspicion that there are people out there trying to do

08:35

Good for you. I love that. That’s very cute. Well, you’ve got that going on, girlfriend. I know you do. Well, what is going on with you now? Do you have anything you want to read or you just want to let everyone know you’re here and I love them? What’s your fancy? I have a guided writing to read and I can do that. I’ll just see if there’s anything else that I really want to say here. You know…

09:07

It’s been really emotional going to chemo every week. You know, the closer it gets to being done, the more kind of weighted underneath that I feel. And that it’s been a difficult time to just endure it. I’m enduring it because I’m trusting that the full 24 treatments is what they give the best odds of survival to. But this is a time where it’s just,

09:36

you know, just very tiring and draining and, you know, I wonder if it’s really doing any good anymore. And, um, I feel like I’m on the other side of it and that I’m probably pretty much cancer free. But that, um, I’ve got to endure the effects of the chemotherapy while it’s going through its cycle with me. And, um, and just get ready for this new phase in life. And, uh,

10:06

I’m nervous about that because the idea of just kind of blasting back into normal life, you know, once I stop my treatments, isn’t quite it. It feels like there’s a transition period to this, what they’re calling survivorship. Why do you think you have to blast back into it?

10:25

Well, earning money is a big factor, I think. So help from our audience in whatever ways would be helpful. Yeah, and thanks for what you have been sending. And probably they can create… That’s the stuff I was telling you about. You’re going to have things being created by these guys that include you because they know that you need that. And so that’s why I’m appealing this way. Because…

10:53

They can be pro-noia. There’s that sneaking suspicion that you’re going to be built into everyone’s plans and dreams because you’re a part of our community. That’s what I want you to know. And that’s what I want, and that’s why I’m sharing it this way with you. So you can know that we love you. That’s why we’re here and supporting you. Thank you. I woke up the other day just in my mind, without being really consciously aware of it,

11:20

writing all kinds of approaches to Oprah and her organization for why I’m a good subject for them to focus on. Right. Both what I’m trying to create after this is over and just this process that I’m in right now and what I’ve been going through. So there’s a potential that I might actually send out a letter and some kind of a video piece to them to see if they’re…

11:51

have a place where they can feature me. I think that’s already in process. Well, I haven’t done anything about it. Well, I have. I already know that you’re a good subject. We talked about it. I think that you’d be a great subject for Oprah and what you’re trying to do. We’ll have an audience there. She’s moving here, right? Oprah, you’re coming here, right?

12:24

Yeah, it’s true. So what do you want to read today? I think that’s it. Yeah, I have a guided writing. It took a while to get back to that feeling where I could meditate again. Still a little bit difficult, but… It was on Oprah that she and Goldie Hawn were…

12:47

um talking and goldie is doing a study of the science of happiness and what makes people happy and they had another couple of well-known authors on about the subject and besides

13:02

where we live as being pretty primary, there’s the sense of taking that quiet time for yourself that’s absolutely a built-in guidepost to how happy you’re going to be. So even if it’s just 10 minutes a day sitting down quietly, Oprah said if you feel like you can or it’s too much to meditate, if you just sit with your eyes closed and be silent between 2 minutes and 10 minutes,

13:30

will have a direct effect on your level of happiness throughout the day. So I thought that was pretty great. So I decided, even though I don’t feel always the focus to be able to meditate now in the mornings, I am sitting quietly for a short period of time and it really is helping a lot. I want to share it with you guys. So one of my guided writings came through about a week ago. I’ll read as much of it seems appropriate and

14:00

Then we can end for today. Thanks for watching. Dear Adrianna, we are with you today in the center of your soul. You have managed to get the conscious connection back by diving into your own depth of spaciousness. And from there, we can easily speak and be heard.

14:28

As we are here with you always, we enjoy when you are here too with us. Ask and ye shall receive. And so you have today asked for deeper tools brought to you for service, for your net profit to be $3,000 and your tithing to the Temple of Peace for this

14:57

Oh, this is about that work job that I prayed for something and I got it. And that it’s very important for my clarity and professionalism and certainty of results to be neat and organized. Those are the key words. And the action most important for my demeanor. Peace and effectiveness. These people are not total yogis, but there is that background influence. So your ambiance setting would be

15:25

Especially appreciated and recognized. Let’s take a look here. Yes, you have felt out of shape lately as you self-care. This will change once again. The time is now for pulling in the reins on your level of indulgences and you know what they are.

15:51

Take greens, beets, and kitchari. Keep simple. Bring foods with you so that you’re not taken off track. And then people can prepare food for you also. Get in the sauna now. Read Marianne Williamson as you can. Take it with you with a big bookmark and take your journal to use as needed. Take this time of grace seriously.

16:18

and you will be in a much different place as the springtime arrives. Then you’re ready for the next levels to download to you with more clarity for purpose, path, and timing. See how the resources keep coming? See it. It is real. People care and are a part of your process. We applaud your restraint and integrity.

16:47

It is healing and promotes safety for your inner child. You may want to go to EO Valley before your treatments to clear and prepare and to use the chemo experience to be a healing one. Set the energetic even if it’s at the beginning parts and just bless the chemotherapy as it’s going into you and it will be even better for you.

17:17

Can you just go ahead, Jason? Let’s take a look here. All right. Yeah, we are here with you to assist. Do not hesitate to ask. And remember, clean out, inside out, and do all the healthy things for yourself. And basically, amen. You’re ready to begin your day. Congratulations.

17:45

Okay, and with that, I thank you for tuning in to this, I think, episode 17 of the Chemo Cafe. So thank you very much and look forward to seeing you next time. Aloha. Go towards the positive on that. But in a sense, I have to be even more careful.
