Brian Murphy on Medical Marijuana Rights and Law Enforcement Issues in Maui County
- [00:02 → 03:10] Introduction and Guest Background
The host welcomes Brian Murphy, a well-known figure in the Maui community. Brian works for Patients Without Time, an organization that has assisted over 1,200 Maui residents in obtaining medical marijuana licenses. He is also the director of Maui County Citizens for Democracy in Action (Democracy in Action), a voter registration and lobbying group focused on peaceful political change through voting. - [03:10 → 05:49] Roles and Philosophy
Brian explains that his two roles, medical marijuana advocacy and democracy activism, are complementary but distinct. He emphasizes voting as the primary peaceful method for change. The host notes that Brian often addresses the audience directly, highlighting the importance of engagement and participation by citizens. - [05:49 → 09:10] Personal Incident: Home Invasion and Police Response
Brian recounts a traumatic event from November of the previous year. At around 12:30 AM, three armed men broke into his home aiming to steal his three ounces of medical marijuana and $300. Brian was pistol-whipped and sustained 14 stitches to his forehead. Despite calling 911, when police arrived and conducted a crime scene investigation, they failed to collect vital evidence such as gun parts and bullets found on the floor.- The police subsequently raided Brian’s home 10 days later based on information given to a judge that omitted his status as a medical marijuana patient.
- Brian feels discriminated against because of his use of medical marijuana, highlighting that police focused more on shutting down his medicine than investigating the violent home invasion.
- The Maui Police Department reportedly never interviewed Brian about the break-in or shared any leads with him.
[09:10 → 10:06] Maui Police Department and Medical Marijuana Enforcement
Brian shares that Chief of Police Tom Phillips publicly stated that Maui Police would not enforce medical marijuana laws that conflict with federal statutes. This creates a situation where medical marijuana patients are treated as criminals by local law enforcement, despite state law legalizing medical marijuana.- [10:06 → 11:37] Legal Actions and Complaints
Brian and his organizations have filed complaints with the state Ombudsman, the county ethics board, and the police commission regarding the police department’s handling of medical marijuana cases and the home invasion. He criticizes the police for their lack of investigation and apparent bias. - [11:37 → 14:04] Seizure of Medical Marijuana and Property
Brian reports that police seized:
| Item | Quantity/Value |
| Medical marijuana | 10 pounds (two raids) |
| Cash | $15,000 |
| Pickup truck | 1 vehicle |
Despite no charges being filed, his property was confiscated and police are attempting to classify the cash and medicine as contraband. This is problematic because under state law, licensed patients are legally allowed to possess medical marijuana.
[14:04 → 16:07] Police Department Challenges and “Bad Apples”
Brian acknowledges that most police officers are professional and underpaid but expresses concern about a small number of officers abusing their authority by stealing marijuana and not filing reports on disappearances. He emphasizes that a few “bad apples” can spoil the reputation of the entire department.- [16:07 → 17:46] Conflict Between State and Federal Law, and Police Chief’s Role
Brian explains that the reluctance to enforce medical marijuana laws stems partly from the police department’s dependence on federal funding, which is linked to enforcing federal drug laws. He argues that Chief Phillips’ refusal to enforce state laws amounts to discriminatory practices and a failure to protect patient rights. He stresses that police chiefs must be held accountable for the culture and policies they cultivate within their departments. - [17:46 → 19:55] Equal Protection Under the Law
Brian asserts the fundamental principle that everyone deserves equal protection under the law, regardless of their status as medical marijuana patients or perceived criminals. The failure to investigate crimes against patients, including violent assaults, violates this principle. - [19:55 → 21:57] Desired Outcomes and Legislation
Brian hopes for:- Clear policies and regulations from Maui Police to protect medical marijuana patients and their medicine.
- Medical marijuana enforcement to be lowest priority on the police agenda.
- Implementation of state legislation (HB 2675) that creates a task force to address medical marijuana issues holistically.
- Better access to medicine for patients newly diagnosed with serious illnesses, avoiding reliance on the black market.
- [21:57 → 23:49] Community Impact and Police Accountability
Brian shares stories of patients harmed by police inaction or theft:- Patients hospitalized due to lack of medicine after police raids.
- Theft of marijuana from disabled patients.
- Frequent thefts coinciding with police helicopter flyovers.

- [23:49 → 26:35] The Broader Issue: Civic Engagement and Overcoming Fear
Brian stresses that fear and complacency among citizens perpetuate the current problems. Many agree with medical marijuana rights but avoid involvement due to fear of government retaliation or job loss. He encourages:- Voter registration and participation as the most effective form of peaceful change.
- Overcoming media-driven apathy and isolation.
- Collective action to influence policy and law enforcement accountability.
- [26:35 → 31:41] Personal Motivation and Respect for Law Enforcement
Brian clarifies he is not anti-police, nor is his issue about marijuana alone. His focus is on ensuring all citizens receive equal justice and protection, regardless of their legal status or personal choices. He recalls growing up respecting police and feeling safe calling them in emergencies, contrasting that with current fears among medical marijuana patients. - [31:41 → 32:54] Discrimination and Unequal Treatment
Brian expresses frustration that his assault and evidence of a violent crime were not investigated properly, unlike how law enforcement would respond if the victim were a prominent public figure. He calls this discrimination based on medical marijuana patient status. - [32:54 → 33:57] Call to Action and Organization Information
Brian invites viewers to get involved with his organization:
The organization promotes voter engagement and making the people’s will heard in policy decisions.
- [33:57 → 34:37] Closing Remarks and Philosophy
Brian concludes with a quote: “True evil only exists when good men stand by and do nothing.” He emphasizes his commitment to activism and responsibility in advocating for justice and equality.

Aloha welcome to another Mama presents today we have a very special guest one that some of you may know this is Brian Murphy good morning Brian good morning Jason how are you today I’m good and you I’m hanging in there and Brian is not only a a wonderfully uh Charming young man sitting here with me why are we on television here we’re in
03:10
the middle of a nice beautiful day uh you normally you see me with different guests Brian has his own no to Ryan in our community this is almost like What’s My Line but I think we should kind of bro I wanted to tell them what you do why don’t we start and we’ll turn over all the cards well one of the things I do is I work for an organization called patience without time we’re a medical group here in mahway county and we’ve worked with over 1200 Maui residents to get their medical marijuana licenses I
03:38
also am director of Maui County Citizens for democracy in action basically democracy in action is a voter registration organization and we do do lobbying issues on bills that we would like to see past now you said them so eloquently that they sound like they go together but I think of them as separate surely you do both of them democracy in action is a lobbying group and because you’re so eloquent and you what are they say they say it about me many times I’m so like God I don’t beat
04:12
around the bush I burn the bush you’re right straight for the issue yes I know so democracy and action develop from patients without time here in a state of Hawaii we have a legal access to medical marijuana well yet there’s a lot of legal problems we’re running into it and that’s why hence democracy in action was born to address those issues and basically that’s what we do through our voter registration our policy with democracy in action is the really the only peaceful solution that changes to
04:41
vote back America and to have your voice heard if you want to be part of the solution they have to hear you and we’ve come to the conclusion that voting is the way for them to hear you okay now see he’s talking to you this is very different as I was sitting here I was thinking Brian is so used to talking to you directly that he didn’t even talk to me I’ll get rid of it okay but he’s right you see he is talking to you you wonder why I do all these television shows with somebody it’s because I’m
05:14
talking to you you know I’m here doing this to me it’s you whose their voice has to hear if we want to make change so we both aiming for the same Target group though okay so we’ll be including you in our conversations my point there is really the reason I’m here today with Brian uh Brian had a recent event that I thought was newsworthy that many of you whether you’re on Maui or Oahu or Kauai or even on the mainland or wherever recognize a certain basic rights and something happened that I
05:49
thought was worthy of your awareness obviously things will be playing themselves out in many ways through courts of Law And discussion so that’s the premise of why we’re here Brian can you help me explain what happened um yeah um basically what happened was back in November of last year around 12 30 at night my driveway alarm goes off I wake up I turn on my TV monitors which I have around the house and I see three armed men getting out of their car coming toward my door luckily I was awake
06:24
before they got to the door so I didn’t have time to prepare I stayed back as soon as they broke through my door I charged it and fought back the best I could over the incident I was pistol whipped all three of them had guns I ended up getting 14 stitches in my forehead it was a major altercation they came to steal my three ounces of medical marijuana and got three hundred dollars upon their departure we had called to the police my neighbors and myself 9-1-1 and the ambulance showed up and I must
06:55
say the average crew was quite helpful they helped bandage my head up and informed me I had to go to the hospital I get in the ambulance we’re on our way down Honda highway and all of a sudden the ambulance gets pulled over by the police police officer comes and asked me for my keys because they wanted to go into my house to do a crime scene investigation because the seriousness of the crime I informed the police officer that we had four medical marijuana licenses at my house and she said no that’s not the
07:22
issue it’s the big problem is people with guns and that’s what we need to investigate and I said oh no problem here are my keys I was then taking off taken off to the hospital I got my 14 stitches I was released at like six in the morning and I had to work my way home which is quite difficult to say the least wearing my pajamas covered in blood and matted hair but I ended up getting home upon arrival at my home my neighbor came to see how I was doing and then informed me that it looked like
07:48
they were doing some kind of photo shoot at my house there’s nothing but flash bulbs going off which I’m assuming was the police taking pictures of the medical marijuana that had cultivated there at the house upon opening my door though and this is after the Maui County Crime Scene Investigation lying on the floor in the lobby is the trigger guard pieces of the gun and bullets from the gun that the police just happened not to pick up um it did bring concern to me I called my lawyer we gathered the evidence and
08:16
he turned it over to the manly County the police department after their investigation wasn’t 10 days later that the Maui County Police raided my house after going to a judge giving them the information of what I was growing at my house but just happened to leave out that I was a medical marijuana patient um here I have a real problem with I feel that I’m being discriminated against as in I don’t get Equal justice under the law here they broke into my house with guns and and physically
08:43
assaulted me well yet the Maui County Police Department’s only concern was well how can we now get a warrant to come in and shut you down and basically that’s what really transpired in a nutshell was I got rate in that 10 days later by the Maui County Police who basically have never interviewed me once have never informed me of any possible leads or information that they had of who did break into my house and hopefully through the court proceedings that are about to start we’ll be able to
09:10
find out if they even did investigate it at all but again to discriminate against someone just because of a medicine that we use that is legal is the problem that we’re dealing with here today one of the things that was quite telling though over the four months we had hearings going on over in Oahu at the state capitol where our chief of police Tom Phillips thank you you think I remember that name but anyway Chief Tom Phillips stated that Maui County Police Department does not want to participate
09:39
in the medical marijuana law in its entirety the Maui County Police Department will not enforce any law that violates Federal statutes and that who you know with all these break-ins and thefts but they don’t have to investigate these because as far as they’re concerned we are already criminals but I hate to inform Mr Phillips I don’t even care if you’re a criminal you still have rights in this country that are needed to be protected and it a police chief does not have the ability to choose which laws
10:06
he’s going to enforce or not enforce so what does Mr Phillips going to decide also he decides that domestic violence every so often the guy does have to smack his old lady so we’re not going to enforce that law or so on and so forth how have you proceeded with this I mean obviously it’s an issue that all of us that’s the reason I think that we should be informed about what’s going on we’ve filed with the state um buttsman who is going forward with an investigation we have filed a complaint
10:34
with the county ethics board which still hasn’t gotten back to us from their first hearing we are going forward with the complaint in the police commission against James Phillips okay I’m gonna turn you guys off so I can talk to Brian I’m trying to talk to Brian he’s trying to talk to you okay the fact of the matter is I want you to listen Okay because this is sorry about it no that’s all right he has so much the passion that you have Brian I recognize you’ve been violated
11:04
okay now again this is all allegedly but clearly that’s the reason that I’m here well um the alleged no electric car is a real story um reality it did happen so what happens next well right now we’re going through Court proceedings one of the big problem we have is actually now we flip over to my other other organization patients without time um they actually took our medicine and our funding the police actually took a total of over two raids at my house um 10 pounds of medical marijuana that
11:37
belong to patients without five pounds fifteen thousand dollars in cash and took my pickup truck I’m not charged with the crime there’s no so you’re not charged but they took into their possession right and now they’re trying to ban and cash right which now the Contraband isn’t Contraband if you have it as either as a licensed thing under their jurisdiction is what I understand yes right and what so I don’t understand well that’s the part I have a problem with too is I don’t understand
12:06
either here we have a state statute that says we’re allowed to acquire acquire means possess gather get that’s what we do right as a group patients have been beaten up in the Parks I’ve been robbed trying to get their medicine so what patients with that time is is a Cooperative group of patients we all pay a hundred dollars to join we then use that mutual fund to purchase medical marijuana that we can pick up in a safe location we acquire it that’s all we’ve got I’m sure that unless you were to
12:33
have a growing facility like you do then you need to deal with an element that is quote against the law and so I would think there would be some encouragement for your type of uh controlled environment why is that not the case well I think one of the big problems is just the monies involved um first of all I like to say that the narcotics why they didn’t grade my house were quite professional I have no issues with how they handle themselves and they should be commended on being professional the
13:05
problem I have though is here we’re dealing with the police force who’s starting salaries around fifty thousand dollars a year can’t live on Maui in that kind of income sort of interesting that here they’re underpaid so if you recognize and even in hearing that they’re underpaid and many of you are similar or probably living in an even more challenging way right and so and then over the last few years of working patients with that time quite often the incidences that we have to deal with are
13:33
police are the biggest problem we run into stealing marijuana under the color of law they don’t charge any of the patients that just keep taking it we’ve had humorous incidences this is not a new and isolated event no no far from and our problem is is there’s always a few bad apples in every barrel but the the problem is One Bad Apple makes the whole Barrel sour and here with the police department there are a few bad apples on there and the big problem we had is when we went to the Maui County
14:04
police station on a few occasions about marijuana that receives that’s no longer there there’s no report and what are you talking about would you be open to having a dialogue on screen with a police officer officers that I love living related yes I don’t know how they would feel but I’m you know I don’t want it to become a an issue about defending marijuana but defending the rights of people and and also isn’t that what evidence is all about if they have evidence then they have it they know what it is
14:35
they put it under lock and key and it’s something that’s tracked so what you’re saying is they come in they acquire they don’t charge and now they’re the dealers or whatever well again I I want to get back to my they’re all not bad apples but there are a few in the barrel that have to be bad just because of the circumstances we’re dealing with and I don’t want to cast dispersion on the whole Police Department well I don’t mean what we need to do is have people like Chief Phillips held
15:09
accountable for policies that he lets Exist by him letting this happen is what created it isn’t the guy who’s doing it but it’s by the police chief who basically treats medical marijuana patients as second-class Citizens he does not believe in the marijuana laws as far as he’s concerned he doesn’t have to enforce it but I hate I beg to differ there’s a thing called dual sovereignty we did contact Mark Bennett who’s our attorney general and in his response to us in writing has stated that yes he has
15:37
to enforce state law and know he is not allowed to enforce federal law just like the federal government’s not allowed to come in and enforce the state law over estate access either can he and the big problem is is creating a situation we have a law in the state that undermines the police’s ability to get more funding from the federal government is the bottom line what it is is this whole illegal drug business is turned into such a cash cow for the police to be able to get funding buying the
16:07
helicopters getting the fuel form creating task force is all federal subsidized so for them it’s to their best interest to keep status quo and I think that might be one of the problems Chief Phillips is overlooking is the fact we have a state law that says we’re allowed to have it just because you don’t like the law doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to enforce it and just because you don’t like the law doesn’t mean you’re not there to protect us also my big problem with to to think that
16:37
they allow people to break in my freaking house beat me pistol with me and don’t even investigate it what is that about you know this is America I have rights too even if you want to consider me a criminal that is more criminal for them to decide that well since you do this whatever happens to you is okay you know that’s just out now I don’t want to what do they say widen this investigation and um what you said about One Bad Apple or a few bad apples in a barrel can sell with a whole Barrel I appreciate that
17:11
but I’ve heard noted incidences over a long time of many varied issues and I would maybe this is ramping this up for a little bit but I think it’s worthy of some conversation and public involvement to see the nature of what’s going on in the Maui police department because I’ve heard some brutal stories and other Arenas that have nothing to do with drugs at all but again when it gets down to the manatee Police Department the buck stops at the chief of police is dead I appreciate that if so that’s
17:46
something fester and grow it’s his fault not the guy’s fault that he would know about these things you think it’s open policy I mean yeah he’s the one who creates the policy let it be open not open unspoken or spoken it’s his job as chief of police to make sure his policemen do the right thing and again if he knows about it so again he’s saying he knows about it and he is not only contributory he has made public statements saying he’s going to deal with it in a Federal Way rather than a
18:22
state way although the state attorney I’m just restating it again disagrees I stated right who is really the one that sets the tone for what’s going on in every state he’s The Interpreter of our policies the attorney general for the states how do we resolve this you know without whether or not you feel comfortable about medical marijuana whether you feel comfortable with these issues the issue is much more basic right the problem I have is what if you were to put it in a nutshell is
18:55
for the police not to give us all Equal justice under the law just because someone may be a prostitute doesn’t mean someone can beat them they should still arrest that person from beating them just because someone sells drugs and someone robs them and beats them they should still investigate the crime and for them to have this whole attitude that because you’re a certain type of person we don’t have to give you equal protection under law is the Avenue that I am pursuing and the complaints
19:23
and the lawsuits that we will be following are based on the fact that we are not getting equal justice under the law and again I can’t emphasize enough it stops at the chief police of deaths it’s his job to make sure if there’s a rotten apple on the barrel to get it out of the barrel not to create a bound a barrel of apples that are all just starting to ferment right away because he feels that’s okay what do you hope is the next step I mean what can happen from this that can bring some good basically what
19:55
transpired on the big island we’d like to see happen over here for the Maui County Police Department to set rules and regulations up for encountering medical marijuana patients to protect the patient’s rights and their medicine and for the Maui County Police Department what our goal will be is to make medical marijuana investigations the lowest enforcement policy on their agenda at the same time we are on a state level we did pass Bill HB 2675 which created the task force that we’re
20:24
going to be owing myself and a few people from the office to develop an answer for all these questions as in my big problem and now I’m in patients with that time a patient will come in to me their doctor just told them they got cancer they’re starting chemotherapy next week Thursday there’s no way in the world this person can grow marijuana in a week There’s no way in the world they can get the medicine they need except for using utilizing the black market we’ve been working diligently with the
20:52
state is to create rules and regulations that would work for everyone and again the state has acknowledged that medical marijuana is a fact it’s not a hypothesis or possible no marijuana does work quite well for quite a few ailments as a medicine and we we as a state have been enacted it as a law Regis won our law enforcement to follow the law and that’s what our goal from this whole process is we’re not trying to get anyone to lose their job we’re not trying to get major funding from
21:20
suing we’re trying to get them to do what they’re supposed to do is what the logist of the complaints are about we want equal protection under the law boom and this is where it involves you and not just for someone who’s a medical marijuana patient not just for someone who is doing something they believe in that may be contrary to what is given but everyone equal protection under the law that should be a very very important place to write to every one of us right and and equal access to here there’s
21:57
incidences in the mailing newspaper because after this incident we actually had a closed and patience for that time because I had gotten beaten up in the police raiding and taking the medicine and everything basically made us close down one of our patients ended up in the hospital because he didn’t have his medical marijuana another patient there was a news article in the key eight times it was down in the park trying to buy his marijuana bought it in his wheelchair put it underneath them they
22:22
knocked the wheelchair overtook it and left them laying on the ground these incidences when you call the police they don’t even show up patients waking up in the morning and their marijuana is missing and again everybody has a conspiracy theory and one of the problems a lot of the patients run into is Harvest little yellow helicopters coming by on a regular basis once it’s ready to harvest helicopters usually a boom next day the marijuana is missing and people are just assuming it’s the police now which is a sad
22:52
scenario I don’t want to cast a shadow on them but it’s just too much of a coincidence that this keeps happening and then the reality of it is there’s way too much money and they keep being kept illegal and that’s why we got to get it out of the hands of the black market through regulation and controls the prices will come down and the value comes down and right now one marijuana plant sitting in your backyard is worth like five hundred dollars if I’m a young young married man here with a child and
23:21
my wife’s working then I’m working and we’re still not making enough to live it’s way too tempting for the police to leave it where well when you do see some illegal substances there’s no Rhyme or Reason to where it ends up and again this back to the chief of police it’s his job to make sure that doesn’t happen and one of the problems we have in in the court case once it gets around people gets chance you can look at it on our website we’ve had patients threaten that you’re
23:49
in violation of the law they take the marijuana plants you’re going to lose your license if you keep this up where can a policeman come up and say you know what we’re no longer going to allow you this medication this I mean this stuff is just over the top to me I just don’t I’m hearing it and I I don’t hear the word marijuana I hear the word rights exactly I mean uh maybe I watch too much television and I’m a product of our age but we see too many shows where uh things are abused
24:23
and I personally don’t like when that kind of Television becomes a reality show it’s not the kind of TV I want to watch what what can we do I’m hoping this is a question I’m asking not only you Brian but the people that I’m hoping that all of you will see this show and say wow that’s horrible and not be attacking of the police but what can we do well to start attacking you when I’m about to attack you um non-involvement keeps the Standish quote the only way we can have a peaceful
25:00
change to any of the problems we’re dealing with energy consumption Wars we’re getting involved in is for you the people to get involved register and vote and have your boys heard that’s the only thing that make these people react is us being empowered the way to get empowered is through our vote you as a person needs to get involved and help the situation by registering to vote and voting on issues that gets the World to Change around the way it should be the current situation is basically
25:31
the high-end lobbyists in Washington DC control everything and it’s time unless the people get back control of what’s going on and my answer to the people watching this show is if you want to get involved become part of the solution doing nothing you’re part of the problem you know I think also part of the problem is we get domed down or dulled down by the great amount of media where our whole world is acted out in front of us and so we don’t have that need to do we’re all sort of become isolated in our own
26:07
little jobs where most people are working from dawn to dusk and and snow well what the government does is in that scenario what they’re using against us is fear someone agrees with me about medical marijuana but they’re afraid to get involved because of their job someone agrees with me about medical marijuana doesn’t want to sign a petition because they want to be on the government’s list but it’s our government they should we shouldn’t have to worry about getting involved and
26:35
that’s the problem is we’ve all become so complacent over the years and not been involved a very small majority of the people who do vote have created the situation we have today and again the only peaceful solution is to vote back America and equal protection under the law should be a requirement it is a requirement and again the police department and I will find out in the courts over the next few months how we stand on the situation well you were here part of the time but I ran for political office here and
27:09
again well you know I ran the first time and it almost was a joke because I didn’t get the media to cover what I was doing with any kind of consistency and I started doing television shows here at the encouragement when akaku was just beginning to be able to have a medium to get political voice out but really I’m not a political animal except everything is politics it’s the involvement I got involved because I didn’t know how to not be involved why am I sitting here today in this
27:43
situation people say well don’t do that you’ll have a police against you I’m not against the police and whether I’m for medical marijuana or against medical marijuana isn’t even the issue the issue is all of us need to pick ourselves up and be involved in our passions that’s what you’re saying because our world is not what we see acted out on television screens it’s this stuff it’s someone that someone comes into their house pistol whipsome 14 stitches and now
28:19
because someone doesn’t like the color of your skin the nature of your politics or the medicine or the medicine you take yeah and that’s where I feel discriminated against and again the people have to understand after the crime scene investigation I find gun parts on the floor now call me crazy for watching too many chapters of CSI but I would think that would be the initial thing would be in your crime scene investigation I was supposed to dust those off I’m gonna put some fingerprints um
28:54
that that’s the part I have a problem with is because of me being a medical marijuana patient none of that applied as far as the police were concerned and if one was to take the opportunity to go to the state web the state of Hawaii website and look at the testimony of Chief Phillips at the hearings this year you see how rabbit rabbit he is against the marijuana and how it is quite obvious and by the reaction of his Police Department he is not sending the right guidelines or rules for his police
29:23
to follow well I hope that you Chief Phillips or any of your people or all of the people whoever they may be and whatever capacity or feel comfortable and open enough to come join me and Brian if you want to I would love it you know we would like to resolve this thing that I’ve discovered and it’s nice thing by doing so much TV no matter what someone’s position or vested interest or reason for being here on this TV we all are really just genuine people and this has been a great experience for
30:00
me being able to sit across in a camera like this with all kinds of people and I really have appreciated what I see in you Brian I’ve known you a few years is your passion you you know you don’t talk from an empty wagon you don’t come in with a guess you do your homework you’re not just navigating through without having a road map you’ve been down this road before you’ve had the experience it would seem that our local authorities would recognize your Authority and embrace it
30:36
and somehow use it as an example why can’t we here on Maui be an example of a place that cooperates you know I thought the same thing with environment and all the recipes with art why can’t we be an example why can’t we all sit here together and find the common ground you know we had conversations about GMO you know where I have four people the against people but I’m looking for a common ground of discussion no one’s getting elected right here you know we’re not looking to be vigilantes
31:09
in any way we are looking to be able to find and make your job for example as a police officer easier because everyone is comfortable to be aligned and aligned with your efforts because they feel like your extension of us and as a kid I grew up where um I respected the police and I grew up with a feeling if I was in trouble that was who to call the interesting thing though is everything is Switched so around people are afraid to call the police I have patients call me a puzzling situations but they’re afraid
31:41
of the police and we should not have to live in a society where we’re afraid for being law-abiding citizens and medical marijuana patients in the state of Hawaii are law abiding citizens we are no different than anyone else and we deserve and demand equal protection under the law just like our guarantee it would have been a total different investigation if someone went in and smacked mayor Tavares up against the head broke a gun on her floor I guarantee those gun parts would have been picked up they would have been
32:10
processed and they would have investigated to the fullest extent of the law why am I different is what the question here today basically gets down to and the answer is I’m not that is the answer I hope you will find that uh when you get up from the show that you’ll take some action in fact you’re a democracy in action yes and I’m www.mmcdifa.com say that slower so you can get it ready get a pencil ready ready www.mccfdia.com our phone number is 579-8320 and we’re not just about the
32:51
medical marijuana issue we’re about the will of the people being heard in the will of the people being what we make our decisions based on not to Willow some big lobbyists or some big company because they have a lot of money buffaloing through issues we the people can make the difference that’s what we’re about that website address now rather than just reciting what does it stand for Maui County Citizens for democracy in action Maui County Citizens for democracy in action now that’s a
33:19
downfall that’s a big mouthful and it’s also something that I hope that you will take to work and get closer to because this is a very important time this is a political year they’re all political years but wouldn’t you say based on what’s going on in our world start with the economy start with our military start with our anything our whole social fabric it’s time for us to create and work together so that we can come out with a better world because we are truly at a Crossroads again our policy democracy in
33:57
action the own and peaceful solution is to vote back America thank you for joining us here today Brian thank you I really appreciate it I know this was a little off my usual subject I guess sometimes we have to bridge those and uh thank you for being brave enough to come out and talk about it I mean I I figure it’s not a matter of Bravery I’m taking the responsibility that I take very as a very real thing my two one of my philosophies in life is true evil only exists when good men stand by and do nothing me I don’t stand
34:37
