- [39:54] Jason compares the station’s programming ethos to that of KQED in San Francisco, a public TV and radio station known for thoughtful, community-oriented talk shows that cover both local and national issues.

now he’s free speech station kak u 88.5 FM Kahului Maui the voice of Maui good morning Aloha this is Jason Schwartz and you’re here on the neutral zone a little bit late but coming in welcome to our show we have a fun show today the neutral zone with me Jason Schwartz would like to thank Naoko motors maui car rentals for their support located at 181 dairy road across from the fire station in khalili they’ve served the Maui community for more than 30 years with services in used cars and
automobile rentals find them online at Maui car rentals net or at 877 3300 the neutral zone has heard Monday’s live at 11:00 a.m. and again on Saturdays at 7 a.m. on kak you 88.5 FM well hello this is Jason Schwartz I’m here in the neutral zone on 88.5 FM the voice of Maui here in Kahului you know today we were going to have Sam small on Sam has a show on ikkaku TV called Maui causes and at the 11th hour he was unable to make it and so I thought well that happened once before that happened last
week with Tasha kama who couldn’t make it so let’s just sort of play it by ear and so we have a special surprise probably coming up gonna walk in the studio you’ll have a lot of fun with that too but because Sam is it here you’ve got me and you got music and you got ideas and you got everything except you don’t have a guest well I went by on the way here and we got my mail and I by the office of Mike Victorino his campaign and he wasn’t there Mike is in Oahu against the inauguration ceremony for
governor EJ and probably Josh green and I’m excited to know that I was able to walk in and there was someone I haven’t seen in literally 20 years Terrell used to be the Maui hotel Association she retired already but she was there we had a nice conversation it’s interesting having putting things in perspective twenty years later with people that you know and it’s like it was a time warp but it’s clear now is a time to do things at a unique way I felt like I was walking into a place where ideas are
being listened to there was reception and that’s what I’m looking forward to in our new regime with Mayor Mike Victorino on council of Kelley King and Shane and Alice it’s nice to know people by their first names right and Tasha well I hope these people are listening and also gonna be guests but I also know that we all have one thing in mind a county that is better when we left it than when we came some of us have come I fortunately came here many years ago 1988 and I’ve been here now and the
ideas that I had and I ran for office years ago still hold true and it looks like we may have opportunity to present them to a world stage together with this radio station and TV but also through our council and our mayor in a coordinated effort to create self-sustainability model to the world so here we are dream maui dot org we were going to be talking about what’s over the horizon evaluating different departments and what we saw in different areas that might need attention or again not only need attention suddenly change
some support and it would be very nice to see this all in an open way I know that um it’s going to be very interesting to watch this process of seeing new candidates and so many of them who are now elected take an important role they’re at the seat at the table and some of the people that are still there riki Hokama by example has an opportunity to be a leader in a way that i imagine will expand his horizons to counsel services is probably going to feel a new uplifted feeling I know that
Councilwoman Kelly King has a real good attitude about council services and their direction as we’re going forward and I’m real happy to say I I saw Kelly yesterday at the Christmas party for the Sierra Club at the Maui tropical plantation really nice event Lucien de neige and the Sierra Club and all that they do I can’t say enough good things and anyway Kelly was there and she shall be on our show here on January 7th a few weeks I will be right after she gets in there again with the new
people but she was going to meet al Perez from Maui tomorrow and talking and looking at things like the pea bypass I’m very very happy to see and hope to extend warm welcome to any and all these groups about the things going on in our community we come here to the neutral zone we’ll talk about things we’ll also have calls in from people we know that eight seven three three four three five is our number eight seven three three four three five that’s our phone number anyway I just feel real good about
things it’s kind of a to think to see these people that are getting into office or getting ready and chance feeling their personal time and attention from their own private lives and the people that are in counsel they’re just I guess like greyhounds there’s they getting ready for another lap and I like Victorino I know has a lot on his plate and I look forward to bringing him here with you again and also to share with him again but this transparency is going to be the most exciting the same with the council
because we’ll be talking about things here on the show and we’ll be able to actually find out what’s up with things and find out what we can do in the private sector won’t that be an interesting thing to empower us in the private sector to get stuff done so that the government can do for us better good concept and then they can do things to help support things that we’re gonna hopefully push out and housing and jobs and music and art and different ways of approaching things that I think just a new perspective I
want to say a current perspective taking advantage of new and important jumps in technology and not forgetting the wisdom of the old the traditional Hawaiian and other cultures that have so contributed to it and who we are today as Maui County I’m really really glad that you guys are listening I want you to go out and tell ten friends easy not only about our show because the Maui neutral zone Maui neutral zone dot-com has all our shows we’ve got like 24 shows up there so far we hope to be a library of good
issues and good people and move forward and get listenership as 88.5 FM the voice of Maui becomes more prominent in the ears of Maui County and our television station we’re going to start doing shows if any of you’ve seen our logo we have a logo that’s really television in tension notice it’s a circle I mean you can’t notice if you’re on radio but we have Facebook live as well and you’ll see it up on the website a circle and a lightning bolt some people say to be well that’s sort of like the Japanese
flag no it’s I was in the college and learning computer learning how to use PowerPoint in what was a new ray to me that I could take an object and give it a start point and an end point and put it into a small presentation so I did that with a circle and with a lightning bolt to convey the concept of a soft and easy zone where we can all talk but there’s very often a zinger we’re talking about something but we maintain a posture here that we want to discuss all ideas when I hate a passion if
people are talking about things in a way that isn’t coming from a place of respect we don’t go there and we very happy we are inviting guests to our show like well Leah Mata from the Maui News or Tommy Russo or Anthony I don’t wanna mess up your last name pigna Terrell from the Maui Times and Susan Hallas and all the Maui now people you know I think that all the media can serve each other and one way is to bring them on our show and to be able to be a place a forum a free forum not like you know cuoi is a
nice station and they have shows on by all kinds of people but we hope to be a place to be a crossroads of people and ideas and things and that’s why we hope to put 88.5 FM kak you on the Maui map even more we’ve all loved ikkaku it’s hard to deny that when there was no television and pre-internet and even in the early days it’s now become true that ikkaku has become a valuable part of our community both in government and education and in public access it’s really one of the things about maui
county that i think we all can be very proud of thank you to J April and the rest I see the monitor just went off maybe that means something good is happening like we’ll see you here we’ll look and see what the time is over here I’m sure I’ll find out in a second but I’m gonna lagoa 11:11 we’re good so I must have said something right 11:11 I don’t know why the monitor is off anyway I have been taking classes at the Maui the University of Hawaii Maui college used to say Maui Community College and
I’m actually taking I think it’s a a two-year degree potentially but I know it’s some kind of certificate thing but the classes are very interesting it’s also interesting that the the academic advisor is a successful local film producer Brian Cohen so that’s a nice thing I didn’t realize that until I was needing to see someone in the class I was taken and he’s the one so Brian I’m looking to speak to you bring you on the show here that’s another subject but um
the college is a really good ground we have young people though when I went to school there is when I went the school years ago and well you know it’s like 1969 273 I was in college that’s like sounds like it is ancient history that’s 50 years ago but when I go to college now and see these kids are smart and they’re learning technology that older people need to learn just to kind of stay up with where we’re at you know when I’m looking around here shaggy Jenkins the program director of guy who
put together this here has done a great job of making this a very user friendly place I can just move a slider or hit a button but all the wiring is done and integration with all the different technologies that we have at our fingertips we can look on a screen and be able to have a guest from across the continent across the world or we can have someone in the studio I mean this is can you imagine that this is now available you could set this up in your own home we all ever wanted to talk about different stations all over but
makes this station great is it now has a history of being affiliated its affiliated only as it’s in the same building it separately chartered and needs its own financing and support thank you very much we appreciate you but this radio station is a real good testament if we have a college and we have a radio station here there must be a college radio station but I don’t know what it is say so maybe that has to be opened up but also we’re putting out I don’t know who knows it yet we’re
looking for scripts and ideas for productions we have three productions scheduled for completion in this next calendar year so if you’re a comedy writer in your writing and want to do half-hour television talk to us if you’re interested you’ve got a movie or you’ve got an idea for a series of skits or whatever talk to us imagine all the people out here and this our world Maui who would love to be involved in production and all the businesses that would like to be able to support this
because all this is under the Maui Arts and Music Association we’re going to be pushing this out to the world we also have of course important to have star power so we were encouraging Willie Nelson Steven Tyler make would I can go on Pat Simmons Pat Simmons jr. Willie K Willie be Willie three we have an amazing number of great people here in these islands some are already stars and some are different levels of shining and local and national what better could be something that from Maui where artists lead to show the
world what can be done to create self sustainability and show off music and art and artists and musicians and cultures from our we know this is a beautiful place we know how lucky we are and many of us who have been fighting to keep it beautiful now feel renewed hope because of our change in government because of an attitude change well hopefully that’s really the public changing in understanding and feeling together so we can empower the people in government to help us but we have to be doing that’s what dream making is all
about as what we’re talking about the private sector learning to cooperate in new ways and so that’s the fabric that that I’m working from and for at the college I was mentioning when taking classes over there I’m learning Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and taking a print design class great instructors here very very interested in getting their students the best opportunities for learning I’ve taken these two classes I’m taking now or especially interesting together it’s interesting
that in taking the classes it’s been letting me work on ideas and if you look at my website Maui arts and music comm you’ll see that I learned how to shade a circle yeah you know it’s very fun learning is very but all you oldsters out there like me you got to learn some of this stuff so that you’ll be able to take opportunity of the amazing things around us that you just may not have been touch with when someone tells me I have the flip phone I always wondered that they realized what
they’re missing in our world that even in the last 20 years the change in cell phones before that there were no cell phones kids you know I could say adults do so we’re in the world and it’s interesting to see how in this Val world that has technology can we save Maui County I’m looking at the time here can we save Maui County can we save Hawaii can we save the world or are we already facing a mountain of plastic and we can’t get rid of it do we have nuclear problems and Fukushima that no one’s
talking about anymore we know there’s still nuclear fallout every day we know what are we just not watching it so it’s not important anymore is that are we trumping it isn’t that terrible I you’d like to use the word word Trump wouldn’t it be is that in bridge I think so but now he’s breaking bridges every day I am I just when shaggy was on the air I always found that interesting I would get my update on what was happening on the national scene by listening to shaggy Jenkins you can still hear him but the
way on podcast so take a look out there he was just here he had a group of people with him that were having an in-studio radio class and so I wanted to make it available to them if they want they’re welcome to come in so we might see someone come through the door here in fact I hope they will at their convenience our callers 873 3 4 3 5 I hope I can hear it with these headphones on yeah I’m going to play a piece of music for you this I did believe it or not this is live at the college Joel Katz who many of you know as
musician extraordinary guitar player piano player pedal steel player is a teacher and teaches music and studio at our University of Hawaii Maui college only in a small town we’re really fortunate to have him anyway in class one of the guys wanted to do a song and they asked me to sing see if you know this song this is all us listen to this [Music] sound familiar [Music] it’s momentum and soul it was fun I was that is no doubt so much damage on there are so many people showcase themselves round
to the world well there was American I love the idol we will do a show smooth as well our Facebook page that song before goes wrong society is run [Music] remember Jack Lewin and there’s someone calling isn’t that funny timing I guess we know the phone will it rings I can put it on airport mode now a little late you guys know but um that’s okay no leave it so right now well the monitor is back on that’s good okay so we’re 20 after we got a little more time I am going to play you another song this is one that
you probably have heard before if you listen to our show it’s Louise Lambert [Music] [Music] see you right now the words so small we see it all right here on our TV seems like whoever we bridge the distance the harder it becomes for us to see [Music] laughter the nature and doubt and green there’s what we need gosh with peace [Music] with fear [Music] to keep the Lord’s mind [Music] bigger weapon [Music] [Music] why do so [Music] [Music] peace [Music] do they behind again this is Jason Schwartz kak you this is
Robert we’re going to go to a couple little commercials and then come right back stephanie has just completed the radio course and we’re gonna talk to her so hang on and we’ll be right back the neutral zone with me Jason Schwartz would like to thank Naoko motors maui car rentals for their support located at 181 dairy road across from the fire station in Kailua they’ve served the Maui community for more than 30 years with services and used cars and automobile rentals find them online at Maui car rentals net or

Jason Schwartz host of the neutral zone knk you as a listener-supported station this means that all the great programs you hear like mine is sponsored by you as well as our underwriters if you would like to help keep the voice of Maui looking loud and clear for the ka k u FM dial it sounds a lot like faith day and give and don’t miss the neutral zone Mondays at 11 a.m. one 88.5 FM – voice of maui well we are back it’s Monday and it’s 11 oh gosh 11:29 we’re in the neutral zone Maui
neutral zone calm Facebook live up or there you’ll also see kak you we our listener supported radio you can call us at 877 e in front of you they there was away from Danny and there’s Stephanie and we’re standing in front of Mike the sitting in front of microphones you guys just took a class what was their class called the Kaku radio orientations ha ha when you got there you gotta get watch listen to yourself and watch the meters you get right in front of the mic see is a one directional new to Danny and we just had
our microphone training is it okay so now you guys part of being on radio is you got to learn to talk sometimes you say wait I there’s dead air well a little space doesn’t hurt but mostly you’re talking and yet your brain has to sort of like being on overdrive so like shaggy ever you guys just met Jackie we just smell isn’t he great he’s awesome he’s the master right here well he’s the master he has a wonderful guy he put all this together we are so fortunate to have someone of his talent
working on our behalf kak you trains people just like you because you’re the food for future shows that you were telling me Stephanie that you have an idea for a show what are you looking to do here on air well I’m an author and I have a book series that all the boughs are for May just do right here okay all about self development and personal growth okay and so I want to build a show around self development and personal growth I see with calls in from people that are at different stages of their development
what kind of work have you done you’ve been working at this area for a while I have for about five years writing books and blog post and social media post I see see all you older people I told you go to school you know what a blah you know social media is we have listeners of all ages and I’m always encouraging them to go back to school and learn so you’ve grown up with all this social media stuff you’re pretty comfortable with it somewhat I’m not I’m a late adopter but I’m getting more into
it and yeah I’m gonna reply you in a fun way first of all it’s free so the pay is what does that me or you who’s dinging oh that’s okay no that’s okay I like things to at mine but um I would like to see if we can work together to promote this show I mean and maybe you think of it as a broiler play we could do it for the whole station but we will know if this show becomes the talk of the town because we need to employ social media you’ll probably if you guys weren’t listening I want to invite on
this show the editor of the Maui news the editor of Maui tine okay Maui now and I would like to do a cross media thing going on see in print media make them feel relevant and involved with us and I’m purposely you to Danny if you’d like to help because you know that I sit here humbly but we’ve been talking about doing things to integrate and one of the things I’d like to integrate is a friendly relationship between the people that you know everyone thought that newspapers are kind of passe but I still
like looking at not on Maui Maui news right right and there’s a little online guys also but how many of us all cooperate is there we have ikkaku they don’t have like a central newsroom for us so we really tend to get stuck in their own lanes sometimes you know they get focused on their own product and their own audience and they forget that there’s other parallel channels that they could be tapping into well let me ask you then what kind of rain are you looking to open up here our radio dial but I work
here da Kaku is an education coordinator teaching some of the classes in television production so I wanted to get involved in the radio side and just learn about it more than anything else really if I was gonna model a show after anything it would be a Michael Krause in his program forum which is on KQED in San Francisco he’s got a really thoughtful audience add to radio call letters right yeah KQED San Francisco is a public television station as well as public radio station so the video nation
has a great morning program where they talked about national issues as well as local and it’s hosted by Michael Krasny it’s just a really thoughtful well and it’s radio rather than television yes okay got it why not hopefully that’s part of what we’re talking about building up our audience and I can sit here but unless last week we had a caller in and then I knew a we have one listener was excellent and we had good those their name can you call them up right now and see if the eventually probably could
Donny was his name and he was thoughtful and and he took a few punches but I showed him what the neutral zone is all about which is you know a punch is helpful only if you’re in a boxing ring right not boxing and we can actually talk about ideas and find that we agree on stuff what are we gonna do then when we realize we actually agree it’s just a matter of how we put things down we’re gonna find I hope new ground that’s what we do okay so Michael Krasny in his show yeah Michael gracias forum is just a
really well done show right really powerful well it brings up national issues local issues he takes in local callers didn’t want to comment on the issues that are happening in this is the Bay Area’s got a few people that like to talk about things so it’s a good so that’s why we need to let people know we exist because I don’t think it’s in any budget to promote kak you or the neutral zone but we have guests that’s why we have our shows all sitting up there and becoming a library
for the island into the world we have guests I imagine you know there are people here on this channel doing some terrific shows have you oh yeah um our st. John’s gutsy women well you know more when she was starting at we all have the same thing we want to hear from the people out there we hear some but it would be nice to have array so that’s where your social bullying at it yeah the social media that’s why I’m going to college that’s why I’m learning not necessarily to do it but be able to say
to someone look we need someone to work on our Facebook presence and you know then every time Trump says boo I want you to put out a post that says bong you know I mean whatever it might be I’m thinking on it so what what thought you guys decided you want to do radio you want to know what radio is all about because you want to be better for all of us when you do intact well yeah well my backgrounds in print journalism as a newspaper reporter and photographer in California and then when I came to
Hawaii and shifted from digital or from from old-school film photography to digital photography I kind of shifted into video as well so I’m intrigued by video I like television production and this radio station was not here when I work here at ah Kaku the first iteration which was 15 years ago so it’s a new entity and I missed intrigued by it well I don’t know have you heard the history of this radio station I know a little bit about it I was off island for a bit so I kind of missed the whole evolution
there’s a guy that I know as little when I first came to this island Kauai radio was owned by a guy named Roger and that’s way long ago and then Kirk Monroe bought it I mean this away ancient days before the owner John debts down but that and in those days it was a really small island and I bring that up because radio was friendly and of and now it’s become a money thing but so we hold a really important thing here at ikkaku but the radio station needs to get out there to everyone yeah I like
the way that it’s really accessible what is a radio station this education course that we just took anybody local can take the class and learn and hopefully have a show and I just I love that outreach Stephanie’s surprised that she just took a one-hour class and they’re about to hand her the keys to the car you know that’s the thing that I’ve learned that because they were small here and it’s like I was talking earlier I can go to an office and see the future mayor the person that runs this the lady that runs
that store these are people in our community were a small community and that’s what this is here we’re a small community if people do about this radio station they would all be on radio trying to Krim move you out of your our spot because they want to put something on because they want to sell something well let’s keep it secret so nobody will take our timeslots well that’s why I say this is community supported audience supported listener radio you know which is a great opportunity it’s like holding
its own presence here well the other stations used to be that way but now they their time is pretty well bought at a pretty good premium so this is a beautiful thing is Michael Krasny a a public access conversation no he’s on KQED which is public television radio so it’s publicly funded but it’s PBS only publicly funded okay but PBS yeah okay so what would be its counterpart here luckily I guess so yeah well we’re all talk shows here so I think this is the closest thing we’d come to what they’re
doing there you know but they put a little more spin on their programming they they proactive or they like us pretty much take things from the community you know it’s community oriented but it’s also national news they really dissect what’s happening on the national level as well muscle thousand is just a really well-educated guy and has a pretty broad view so he can take on any subject really intelligently you know if they put him on other stations and stuff is he one of the hey believe he’s
nationally syndicated on NPR but I’m not sure of that okay so we have a lot of that here like that’s another potential opportunity because we’re part of a Pacifica Radio group so some of the programming here is Pacifica and I guess if our content gets to be interesting on a national level who knows this could be the start of you show being all across the country so if Stephanie motivates and changes people’s lives here on Maui she might be able to change people’s lives all over the country that’s right
that sounds loss especially alright you know I met Stephanie just a couple of weeks ago right it was a couple of weeks ago what I sometimes go to Unity Church you know when I say unity I think of I’ve been talking unity a long time and I realized though and then go to the Unity Church a long time – something like 28 29 years a long time way back when their keyboard player did the talent showcase Matt Cain boy he could he still can’t play great anyway but um that’s where I saw you you stood up you
the announcements yesterday there you were just yesterday yes I’m glad to hear you involved here at this radio station because you’re bright spirit and you’re really important for our community to get people like you and you Danny I’m really glad to hear that that you want to be here you’re gonna think that have a show yourself you think I really just kind of dipping my toes in the water to try it out and see what it’s all about so I don’t know yet we’ll see okay
so you know I was gonna say I’m maybe you guys if I don’t know how Monday at 11:00 a.m. sounds but as time goes on think of yourself as kind of a roving reporters until you have a show and or even if you had a show I don’t like you can hear me I’ll try to inter volve I’d like the people that watch Maui causes in Sam small show to turn on our show I’d like the mayor to tune in I’d like to counsel people to tune in and see what the guy had said from the director of the this that’s what I’m hoping we
can do here you know and different than yours she’ll might be or you know I’d love your help as we go I like to think of I don’t like to think of myself but the truth be known Ray Charles and I have a lot in common not that we play keyboard together we just sing both saying but I’m getting less and less able to see easily so when I used to do editing iMovie was great because it was simple but then as we got going too many buttons too many choices and my eyes have been having a trouble
so so we’re looking out there for people that recognize what we’re doing is of interest in value money will come along whenever it comes through our nonprofit but we’re building a team of people to build this station and this island don’t we that’s what we’re gonna do we’re gonna you guys are welcome to come back on this show anytime you want anything that you want our audience to know about you Stephanie is a great dancer oh that is true are you looking to so do you have a
private practice or what do you do with your time well I’m a writer and like I said I have a series of books that I write the head smart heart dumb girl series say it’s there is all good head smart heart dumb girl series and I am the head head smart heart dumb girl I see mm-hmm well different than TV keep talkin well the series is all about my experiences with dating and relationships and self-love and all the mistakes I’ve made in my journey of learning how to love myself and others
and the lessons I’ve learned as well so so who’s your audience for your books I mean do you have a target but you’re looking for people to take a look in well ideally my target is middle school girls and high school age but I found the college-age students also benefit from my books as well as their parents heads smart head smart heart dumb girl what do you mean by head smart heart dumb so what that means is a girl who’s smart maybe in the classroom or you know in work career but when it comes to
relationships and getting some love the mistakes that we make over and over and over again and and so it’s really linking the mind and the heart into one working unit as opposed to being it’s its contour what I think because when I was little people would say you’re too much in your heart it’s not using your head right and I used to resist that and now people say thank goodness you come from your heart it’s like we’re very confusing what do you think I believe in balance yeah that’s what we’re striving
for that balance of both okay well you know so I’m gonna say it again does it have a website I bet it does yes www.ed.gov that girl nope yeah it because everybody actually hits hard potential cards are dumb well I have one friendly and rich dot-com nice that’s different I have this theory that as people get more mired in in social media and and and interact with people at a distance rather than face-to-face I think we’re seeing us we’re getting more and more intellectual more and more skilled with
technology and things but we really aren’t honing those human skills and the laboratory is out there where we touch not over this distance thing right you know I mean when someone says safe sex these days that means that your partner is in North Carolina and you saw them on a screen you can’t get too many diseases this is a new I’m laughing but truly our world seems to be we’re getting up close and everybody’s faces really easy but it’s easy to call someone a yes from a distance right well someday we’re gonna
have that little Google glass kind of a glasses we’ll walk down the street and it’ll tell us the the credit rating of the people that walk past and their criminal history and digitally and not have to actually interact with them at all oh yeah well that’s coming to a theater near you I mean how about we can drive automatic ant drive automobiles they will drive themselves because we’re not qualified to drive those cars and give them a destination are you kidding I’m still looking forward to getting
humans from out from behind the wheel we’re so incompetent we’re becoming okay well I go to the gym you know why do we have to do anything okay Siri turn on the lights okay Alexa turn out to take the garbage out tell the kids not to shout you know what it comes to a self-driving car though I think that’s a different thing that’s you know because the car’s computer is never going to need to light a cigarette or change the radio station or check attacks it’s just going to be watching
the road I’m gonna give you a number you may laugh at 1972 remember that Bakley I was six how about 64 no ah I was in utero daddy’s old at the New York World’s Fair my brother and I took the subway we went to the World’s Fair and we took the General Motors Futurama ride and I don’t know how many of you remember that till you boil old stairs but there were that they were talking and showing us people sitting leisurely in the back seat doing their whole life while the car took them
down the highway here we are back to the future stick them long enough didn’t it well you know but now the question in my mind is now that we have all this time on our hands how can we use it to be positive and not turn it into I want to say selfish time I don’t even know if that’s the word but how can we use this new leisure that’s been added into our world through technology to wise us all up maybe get us out and run around the block a few times or do things because we were working on that you’ve got the
Fitbit you know you’ve got things motivating you to get out and get healthy 200 you got to get something it’s like wow I’m always amazed at the price when I go down to a hamburger place and I see you know $4 $5 it’s the same hamburger what happened here used to be 15 cents 30 40 I feel sorry for the homeless people that used to go to McDonald’s because they used to have a dollar menu now it’s like 150 250 and 350 what at what there was dollar now it’s dollars and what are we really
doing in our world if funny world these days I don’t know how you guys feel but all those fast food restaurants charge me 75 cents to add lettuce to my sandwich the other day that’s a lot for a little cholesterol lettuce I like that a cluster of lettuce but yeah you’re right it is crazy I mean it’s like when you go by McDonald’s it’s like that cup 25 cents for that cup what I’ve also found is because of that going on in business I don’t know how you got you guys are younger I’m giving em all
though but I love that you think we’re young well you’re younger than me I know that and I also know that I I wonder whether sometimes young people don’t understand that there’s more you know that there’s more personal life if you ever take the cellphones and technology away from younger people I’m gonna include you in the group you often have your cell phone I do but I actually turned my cell phone off when I go to bed okay and I’m bringing it up because how funny it is parents are old people
say look at those tables and there’s young people there they’re all on their phones talking to somebody but not to each other yeah just like when we’re talking here and talking about stuff so it gets very impersonal but very close up here sit at the table with the family and one kid I wanted to the table was texting and the kid of the other end is texting and then both laugh at the same time and you figure out they’re just texting each other from the other end of the table oh I haven’t had that yet that’s a good way
please pass the soap right so anyway so when you’re on radio see how I keep talking you say God look at this guy he just keeps talking isn’t he making no sense after a while sometimes you make no sense you learn to realize that you just relax and enjoy it you know some people like fast pace some people like slow pace in my little phone here I have something called I have an iPhone sound board and in there I have little Clips like this claimers what I say into them I have different music songs we have smart
minutes listen to this one this is worth hearing a smart minute there’s a sound very smart doesn’t does it come it doesn’t sound smart you guys wonder what this field on linked up maybe you got a loose connection there’s smart meters Arthur McDonald meters as they are called our wireless two-way communications devices used to replace mechanical utility meters to track and record my new details of our lives what I did I took information smart meters our surveillance devices designed to
track and permanently record details of our electrical lines how many people know the history of household vector sounds completely some people say well others do yesterday someone said today side our home so she saw the sensor monitors is being mined and sold thank you for listening to the neutral zone the neutral zone you know it’s interesting as I’m not sure that’s so smart I want to hear I want to hit consider the source who’s he’s the neutral zone well then that was a smart
minute that came from a lady who is a an engineer a doctor actually of of energy medicine who was talking about the out what do you want to call the waves and technology some people are very affected I know people that can’t get near on iPhone 6 and up and they can’t get near our phones because they put out too much radiation and it affects them how it affects them physically they get physically sick Wow and I’m not talking one problem a lot of people and I’m actually been to one
place in particular here on Island where they actually ban the use of cell phones because of radiation it’s interesting because we may some people know and some people don’t know about what these things do to each of us so I have things like that or I might have a tidbit that says did you know that the homeland right on Maui that a small one-bedroom will cost you more than your arm and your leg did you know that we’re 20,000 housing units I mean stuff like that so I have all kinds of
stuff ready to go I have songs from local artists musicians and sometimes I have guests and that that’s really what I want to do mostly is talking with guests I hope that when you guys are on ready or when you’re doing what you do it’s really very fulfilling because our pay is non-existent but we’re doing something for our community reward that you know that you’re coming and doing this and will hopefully will encourage people to know about it you’re looking at the clock and think
you’re paid in the satisfaction of knowing that you can express yourself on the air and reach the community that’s your pay well that’s a good pay you know it’s a good pay I know that if our mayor doesn’t listen to our show he may miss an answer or the council or the people that will check in to be part of something and moving toward a better future that’s what we’re doing well thank you guys Danny and Stephanie for pb’s we are gonna go off the air in like 30 to 40 seconds isn’t that amazing
we’re gonna play our jingle again you know we’re gonna do that thank you guys for joining us look forward to listen Theo shows on the air thank all you out there all you people this is the neutral zone you can find us at Maui neutral zone calm you can find this at ka k you on Facebook you can find this on the dial 88.5 we’re going to sign off and play a little music watch this here’s our jingle we’ll see you next week thank you so much for joining us here on the euro zone it has been a pleasure
