Summary & Transcript below…

  •       [02:46 → 04:21Introduction and Guest Overview
The segment opens with a warm welcome to the show “Mama Presents,” introducing Tilak, a well-known teacher, mentor, and missionary. Tilak is recognized for his teachings that highlight the sweetness of life, touching many hearts with his wisdom. The host expresses delight in having Tilak back in Maui, noting his previous appearances and the continued popularity of his shows. This introduction sets the tone for an inspiring and insightful conversation centered around navigating life’s challenges with grace and awareness.

  • [04:21 → 07:17Perspective on Global and Personal Transitions
Tilak explains that life is in a constant state of transition, comparing it to the waves of the ocean—some waves are small, some large, but all signify change. Currently, we appear to be facing a “big wave,” which can either be embraced as an adventurous opportunity or feared as a destructive force. He emphasizes that the heart, connected to life’s intelligence, should respond to challenges not with fear but with alertness and presence. This perspective encourages seeing difficult moments as openings for growth and contribution rather than sources of despair.

  • [07:17 → 10:29Advice for Overcoming Fear During Hard Times
Addressing concerns specific to the local community, especially amid economic downturns and uncertainty, Tilak offers practical advice. He likens frightening situations to illusions in a magic show—seemingly real but ultimately not permanent. He stresses the importance of “taking it easy,” meaning to avoid frantic scheming driven by fear, which often leads to poor decisions. Instead, one should remain calm, alert, and aware of life’s impermanence. Recognizing that all circumstances change allows individuals to maintain hope and alertness rather than succumb to fear and despair.

  • [10:29 → 13:10The True Nature of Joy and Human Spirit
Tilak challenges the common misconception that happiness comes from accumulation—money, possessions, or physical pleasures. Instead, he asserts that true joy arises from our ability to respond creatively and resiliently to life’s challenges, surfing over difficulties with the power of the human spirit. He shares his personal story of overcoming life-altering setbacks, including a bus accident in his youth and a heart surgery later in life, demonstrating how these moments of crisis became catalysts for growth, inner sweetness, and connection with others. This underscores the transformative potential inherent in adversity.

  • [13:10 → 15:16Encouragement to Embrace Gratitude and Heart Energy
The host reaffirms the significance of Tilak’s wisdom, particularly in difficult times, encouraging viewers to reconnect with the pleasure and joy of living. Tilak elaborates that when external circumstances threaten inner peace, it signals a need to realign with the heart’s true energy—innocence, sweetness, and gratitude. By cultivating these qualities, individuals can maintain a positive outlook and manifest a fulfilling life regardless of external hardships. Gratitude becomes a powerful tool to unlock emotional, physical, and spiritual energies, fostering resilience and joy.

  • [15:16 → 20:00Understanding Unworthiness and the Moment of Presence
In a candid exchange, Tilak addresses feelings of unworthiness and inferiority, clarifying that unworthiness is not a negative distortion but an awakening signal. It reflects disbelief that one deserves abundance and joy. He explains that external circumstances often reinforce this feeling, but these are reflections of internal emotional states rather than objective reality. Tilak encourages shifting focus from the “sunset,” or loss of past certainties, to the “sunrise,” representing new beginnings and potential. He highlights the importance of embracing the present moment fully, free from distraction and regret, as the gateway to wonder and transformation.

  • [20:00 → 23:45Childhood Experience of Wonder and Connection to Life’s Mystery
Tilak shares that his connection to a state of wonder began in childhood, describing it as a spontaneous encounter with an unseen “opening” or attraction in the air—something like a silent energy or intelligence that brought joy and fascination. This early experience, independent of formal teachings or lineage, shaped his lifelong work. His parents’ backgrounds in physics and Buddhism may have influenced him, but his insights emerged from direct, personal experience of this profound reality. This foundation enabled him to share a universal invitation to reconnect with the awe and mystery of life.

  • [23:45 → 26:06Creating a Space for Exploration Beyond Problems
Tilak explains that his work is less about solving problems or healing in the conventional sense and more about guiding people to explore the infinite potential within themselves. Those who come to him are seekers, curious about what lies beyond their usual boundaries. In this space, people feel safe, free from judgment, and able to release fears and self-limitations. This process awakens a deep happiness akin to entering an air-conditioned room on a hot day, a metaphor for the refreshing and liberating experience of connecting with silence and inner peace.

  • [26:06 → 28:24Magic as an Invitation to Wake Up to Mystery
Tilak reflects on how magic serves as a metaphor for life’s deeper truths. Magic captivates and awakens us but is not the ultimate reality. Beyond magic lies mystery—the profound unity with the elemental forces of nature and our own essence. The mystery invites us to dissolve attachments to past identities and future anxieties, immersing fully in the present moment with intimacy and peace. This deeper awareness cultivates humility, gentleness, and reverence for life, qualities essential for a fulfilling human experience.

  • [28:24 → 31:31Gratitude and the Joy of Being Oneself
Tilak emphasizes that while material needs such as money and health are necessary for survival, the highest joy comes from gratitude and mindful awareness. These awaken emotional and physical energies that connect us with life’s infinite mystery. The greatest gift one can recognize is simply being oneself—embracing one’s unique existence as a gateway to experiencing infinity. This realization encourages living authentically and with openness, leading to a ripple effect of illumination that benefits others and contributes positively to the world even amidst impermanence and imperfection.

  • [31:31 → 32:11Closing Thoughts and Contact Information
The conversation concludes with Tilak inviting people to visit his website,
unconditionalwonder.com, for further connection and exploration. The hosts express gratitude and affection, signaling a heartfelt close to the enriching dialogue. The atmosphere is warm and inclusive, encouraging ongoing engagement with the teachings shared.

  • [33:11 → 37:58Opening and Closing Musical Segment: “Maui Styling”
The transcript opens and closes with a repeated musical segment titled “Maui Styling,” which celebrates the spirit and style unique to Maui. It conveys themes of sunshine in the heart, family love, resilience, and community support. The lyrics encourage lifting one’s head to the heavens, helping each other, and embracing the local spirit as a source of strength and renewal. This musical framing reinforces the show’s core message of embracing life with joy and unity despite challenges.

Overall Summary:
The program features Tilak, a mentor and spiritual teacher, who offers profound insights on navigating life’s constant transitions with courage, presence, and gratitude. He reframes challenges and fears as opportunities for growth and awakening, encouraging viewers to embrace impermanence and remain alert rather than fearful. Tilak’s personal experiences of trauma and healing underpin his teachings, illustrating how adversity can lead to transformation and deeper connection with the heart’s innocence and sweetness. Central to his message is the invitation to live in the present moment as a state of wonder, to move beyond illusions of lack and unworthiness, and to recognize the magic and mystery that infuses all life. The dialogue blends practical advice with spiritual wisdom, aiming to inspire resilience, joy, and a collective illumination that transcends personal hardship. The musical segments bookend the conversation, grounding the message in the local Maui spirit of community, love, and enduring optimism.

02:18
Well, aloha
02:46
And welcome to Mama Presents. So we have a wonderful surprise for you here today. It’s really a delightful treat for me. We have with us Tilak, who is a very well-known teacher and mentor.
03:05
and a missionary and he travels and he serves as many. And Tilak is a very special person because in his teachings he expresses the sweetness of life and that’s a real gift and he’s touched many hearts with that.
03:23
With that, I would like to give you, like Johnny Carson, da-da! Tilak! Hey, you’re here. Wonderful. Hey, Tilak. Wonderful, wonderful. Welcome. We’re glad to have you back in Maui with us. Yes, it’s always nice to be here in Maui. It’s a wonderful place. We like it, huh? Yes.

03:48
I have not appeared in your show for a few years, I think, and now here I am.
03:54
It has been a few years. Yes, yes. But so many people loved your shows. Oh, thank you. And they’re still watching them. They’re still showing. Yes, yes, I heard that, yeah. Yeah, and so, of course, we had so many requests for an update. Yes. And you’re back on Maui with us, so we appreciate that. And we appreciate you taking your time to be here with us today. Thank you. So tell me, you know, so much is going on out there.

04:21
right now. What do you think of the world situation that’s happening right now? Oh, I mean like so much is happening all the time, you see. I mean that’s the part of the way to see it that way. People come and tell me they are in a transition, but we are always in a transition. We are always in a transition.

04:43
It is not actually one time we are in a transition, we are always in a transition. Transition is like the waves of the ocean. There are different waves, some waves are bigger, some waves are very small. However, the transition means some kind of a change is happening. Feels like we are in a big wave right now. Yeah, in a very big wave. When a big wave comes, either you take it as an invitation to surf,

05:12
and enjoy the ride or else other people who can get frightened by the big wave run away as if it’s going to destroy them. And one of the ways to see any situation or any moment is it challenges and provokes your heart
05:32
and our heart is actually connected to intelligence or the forces of life. And so you have to see any situation either out of fear or either out of a real provocation and a challenge that is telling you to pay attention into detail and so that
05:57
it can really create something more powerful. So even in the most difficult times in the world, depressions and everything else,
06:09
There are people who saw them as opportunities and openings and they created incredible contribution to mankind. So, I mean, this is such a great moment, I believe and I feel. I know so many people who got frightened and who went down because they were feeding the fear. Right. Well, those big waves can be scary. Yeah, it’s scary, but there are only two ways to live your life.

06:38
Two ways to live your life. Either you live your life outrageously or you are a survivor. Either you live your life outrageously. Outrageously means actually adventure.
06:52
To be adventurous and outrageous you have to be paying a lot of attention, a lot of alertness is required. So that alertness and the attention required can make you feel very good rather than make you feel bad. I mean that’s what I want to see this situation in the world or personally and globally can be an eye-opener and a wake-up call.

07:17
All right. What would you say to these people that are with us today? Because so many people here on the islands, as you know, the tourist economy has dropped and businesses are closing. They’re losing their businesses. They’re losing their homes. They’re afraid about how they’re going to feed their families. What kind of advice would you give them on moving past that fear? Well, actually, I mean, as I said earlier,

07:47
The situation only look frightened the way it is presented even like in a magic show. In a magic show you can see somebody cut into half but you know in a magic show it is not real. Right now this sensation that you are getting cut or you are going to get hurt seems very real but I am telling you that it’s an illusion.

08:14
It is not real. It is actually a part of the disguised camouflage that comes to us asking us to, number one, take it easy. Take it easy doesn’t mean actually calm or passive. Take it easy means do not go into scheming and planning because the scheming and planning at a time of a big wave that comes and challenges you can be disastrous because

08:42
What you are scheming and planning is based on fear and the unworthiness. So it is more important that you remain calm and cool because the nature of life is impermanency, imperfection and uncertainty.
09:00
Impermanency means nothing stays forever, including this time. It’s going to go away. All the bad times are there, bad times go away. So in that way, it’s a way to see that this is a time actually one can remain in a state of alertness, not a state of fear. All the time the alertness actually gives into something good.

09:29
Otherwise, actually you are afraid of something that is impending like an attack. Attack, distractions and distortions are brought about by us. They are not outside, they are within us. And the fear builds more fear. Fear builds more fear. And hope and fascination and challenging any situation brings energy into your gut level, into the system.

09:58
It’s very true. You know, I used to tell my children, or I still do, from the time they were little when they would complain, I’d say, well, you know, there’s one thing you can always be sure of. There’s only one thing you can be sure of.
10:12
And that’s that things will change. Yeah. Things are going to change. Be ready for the change. If you don’t like it right now, tomorrow will probably be different. But in fact, actually, that actually says something else.
10:29
The part of the life is not about having and manifesting and wanting and manifesting. Part of the life is actually most people usually believe if they have lots of money, lots of sex, lots of energy, lots of this and that, lots of volume, that that will bring them happiness.
10:48
Happiness in that way is like stuffing yourself. I mean it gives you a certain kind of a comfort. But the truth of the matter is the true joy and the pleasure of life comes out of responding to all the challenges, provocations that are thrown at you.
11:09
and with your ability to change them, with your ability to surf over them rather than drown them, whatever that is trying to bring you down, whether it is a thought or a feeling or a situation or a virus or energy, you can change because that is the power of the human spirit, power of our human essence.

11:31
Well, I think that you gave everybody an excellent example of that when you were a young man and you were in medical school and your life was disrupted by an accident. Yeah, when I was actually very young I was hit by a bus and otherwise I would have proceeded to study into the field of medicine. But the beautiful part about it that accident really changed into something good

12:01
That’s what I’m saying, you used those changes, you used that to create something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And not only that, even I had a heart surgery about five years back. They found I had a condition, genetic condition, that needed to repair. See, whatever that needed to repair, you have to attain. It’s like you can’t say, I’m spiritual and it will go away.

12:27
And that is part of the grace. Part of the grace is actually the beauty is that there are so many things within our heart that need to attend as they appear, as they appear. And so I was able to actually be humble and go through life-threatening moments two times in my life.

12:54
Both actually has brought me very sweet space and great people who came to see me afterwards as a result. I mean that’s the same thing I’m talking about in everyday life, even in everyday life.
13:10
we have a situation that doesn’t look like they will ever change. Everything can change. And that’s what I’m trying to say. Everything can change. Well, I fully believe that. And I understand what you’re saying. You know, I’ve been so gifted with many great teachers such as yourself. But I just know for many it’s really a challenging time right now. It’s hard to keep that. And, you know, I…

13:39
Really want to encourage you all to really listen strong to this wisdom that Tilak has given you because it’s so… Because no matter what happens, you are here for the pleasure of living and the joy of living.
13:53
So if you feel that other things are taking that pleasure and the joy away from you, that means it is you are off the track. You have to see the situation in a different angle or you have to find in your heart some other energy that can open and connect with you with intelligence that can make you manifest anything you want at your heart’s will.

14:20
Heart’s will is actually made out of innocence. Heart energy is made out of sweetness. Heart connections are made out of gratitude. So those three things, if he can become aware, you can have a good life and a good time no matter what. It’s very important to see that way. And in fact, that’s why

14:48
The whole beauty about life right now is to stay in gratitude. Recognize and appreciate and be grateful still you have a great life no matter what. And be thankful and stay in touch with your heart and your feelings. And it will open something very, very powerful. And very sweet to actually see this no matter what happens.

15:16
you are capable of changing and manifesting anything you want. Yay! Thank you. That is so, so wonderful wisdom. Mahalo. I know it’s very important for people to hear those things right now. The magic of television. I have now turned into T-Lock. Oh, that’s T-Lock. How did that happen? I know. Well,

15:45
You know, we were just talking to your brother in Australia. He’s a magician. So we decided, in honor of Terrence, to do a little magic on this show, too. So that’s what’s going on. Ariel will be back. Thank you for letting me join you here. Welcome. You know, in the subject you were just talking with Ariel about, about the world and what’s going on, I think that you were talking about me. Hmm.

16:15
You were talking about people that are suddenly experiencing fear and feelings of unworthiness and things like that. I wonder what clue you might have for me, because life circumstances are just changing. You need to come, at least maybe you can tell me, you have to come from some place inside, right? It’s all in a game.

16:44
Or it’s a game that I’ve got to do something to shift my attitude, right? But the thing is unworthiness is not something actually good or bad. Unworthiness is actually part of the human nature. Unworthiness is not a feeling of inferiority.
17:07
Feeling of inferiority mostly is connected with our sense of not good enough and like the self-esteem is an attack. Feeling of inferiority is an attack and a distortion. Unworthiness is not a distortion. Unworthiness is actually eye-opening. Unworthiness actually comes and then you don’t think actually you are bad or weak but you believe it’s too good to be true.

17:38
You somehow or other tell yourself it is too good to be true for you to have an unbelievable, exuberant life of, you know, total prosperity overflowing, total magic happening, total excitement happening. Your mind says if you settle to even an okay life that you are damn good, you are damn lucky. So most of the time that’s what you have settled into. So outside circumstances,

18:08
play heavily, I mean in my circumstance, play heavily into my feelings of unworthiness. Because I feel like I’m knocking on the door, knocking on the door and I’m not being heard. Yes. But outside circumstances are, they are just extensions of your own heart feelings. They are not outside. It’s not like they are inside you, they are actually connected to you. So there is no outside actually you see.

18:39
All the things we see outside, we see them because inside we have those emotional energies. So therefore we interpret or rather misinterpret that whatever we see outside is real. Outside is not actually real. So as a result, most of the time in your life,
19:04
What you are looking at is the sunset of your life, not the sunrise. Sunset means everything you have known so far is disappearing. All the things you have touched, experienced, is going under the horizon. But there is a sunrise behind you. If you can see that, it will put your whole body and heart into a state of wonder.

19:31
So we are nostalgic about the sunset. We are talking about all the things, oh, she’s such a beautiful girl, I had so much money, I had this. By saying that, actually, you are just praising the sunset, whereas the sunrise is about to erupt in your body and heart, and that’s what you should be focused on. Like you were talking about, life of adventure. Life of adventure. What is yet to come, that you experienced. Yeah. Got it. Totally.

20:00
So the unworthiness is actually an eye-opener, if you can really see that way. In order to actually break through the unworthiness, you should have the ability to recognize, acknowledge and appreciate this moment. This moment is an awesome moment. This is the only moment in your life that is so precious. Not the past, not the future. But in this moment, the point is you are distracted.

20:29
You are distracted by all kinds of things you are thinking. You are thinking about the next moment. You are thinking about what you just lost a few moments back. And all the things actually you are distracted doesn’t allow you to experience this moment as a state of wonder. However, this moment is a state of wonder. This moment is asking you to pay attention

20:59
and recognize and acknowledge this is an incredible moment. If you can do that, it will blossom your heart. And if you don’t do that, then you go down. Life is like a wave. Either you are riding the wave or you are coming down in the sliding. You are never actually having the moment of pause. Moment of pause is there but it’s just sliding into the wave. Either you are rising into

21:27
into really a state of bliss, or you are coming down with some kind of a state of insight. How did you come upon this? I mean, it spontaneously came to you? No, actually, since I was a child, yes, and I was able to connect into this field of wonder, which I call nothing except WOW as a child.

21:54
I mean as a child you don’t have words like intelligence or God or energy, silence, anything at all. I saw some very powerful openings of attraction. I saw attraction. I mean normally we don’t say we see attraction. We are attracted to something. But for me I saw them like physically you see a beautiful flower or a painting.

22:22
But what I saw was in the thin air, I see nothing. But in that nothingness, I saw something, like a cool breeze, almost like a science fiction movie, like Kenny Reeves and Matrix, all these guys experience. But not in those kind of energetic vortex. But I saw an opening, like out of nowhere. And that opening that I saw,

22:48
I got fascinated and excited and attracted. I connect with that and I found it just made me feel so good. Very simple reality made me feel so good. So like that I really discovered and realized another huge world that exists with us since I was a little baby. And that is what I have shared for all my life.

23:17
with so many people. I did not come from a traditional lineage or a teacher. My dad was a physics master. My mother was an incredible woman who came from a Buddhist family. But I was able to see something so powerful that made my life so alive, so exciting. And that’s what actually brought me to

23:45
And so, I was just going to say, and so the work that you do now, which is sharing this state of wonderment, giving people a glimpse into it. Glimpse into it, it is almost like when you go into air condition, you feel cool.
24:08
Hot tub, doesn’t matter vegetarian or not, you will feel hot. In the same way, I open a space where people feel happy. It’s like going into an air-conditioned room. But it has no discrimination whether they are good or bad or there are no such judgments at all. And that happiness comes because they unleash whatever they are holding automatically in that space. And they connect into a very sweet silence.

24:35
So it’s energy. They are breathing in that way. No, I… I was kind of curious. You… Your clients, your… I guess the clients? Yeah, yeah. Have all kinds of walks of life. Yeah. Some of the people that I’ve seen, even here in Maui, I wouldn’t have thought were open to these kinds of things. So you work with all kinds of people

25:03
Mostly word of mouth, right? All by the word of mouth and also the people who come to me, they come not because they are seeking healing or salvation or feeling. They come because they wanted to find out or they want to discover. They can question what else is there.

25:23
And so whatever is there is a very rich question. And so for them to expand their hearts beyond their boundaries. And it’s a fascinating thing rather than working on your problems or working on this or that you normally do for the rest of your life. Here when people come to me they are discovering and exploring infinity. And there is no chance they will feel bad.

25:47
Because once you are about to discover infinity, your life and all the mundane level things you worry about and fear about, they can’t exist. Because the force of connection and the fascination to life is so stronger than your self-sabotage and your self-absorption.
26:06
And let the wave ride like they ride into very higher level consciousness. I see. And in that way. See that magic now? That’s beautiful. T-Lock Jason. You thought Jason T-Lock. Actually, we have to worry about it. Life is magic. Everything what we see is magical. And that’s just a part of the imitation.

26:31
Magic exists for you to wake up, otherwise you go to sleep. But magic is not the end result. So sorry, I forgot. We’ll be back. So basically I was saying like the magic is an invitation for us to wake up. Everything we see is magic. All the beautiful women, all the beautiful men, the babies, the waterfalls, sunrise, sunset. However, magic is not the

26:58
end of the line. Magic is really the stage for you to enter into the world of mystery. You have crossed through the magical world without being mesmerized and glued by it so that your mind is distracted and distorted. Beyond magic exists the mystery. The mystery is beyond anything that we can experience as just a pleasure and a joy.

27:26
Mystery is an invitation to become one with all the forces, with all the energies that exist that manifest earth, fire, water, air and space as well as yourself. So the mystery of life suggests there is something fundamentally so exciting, so powerful that exists in your heart with your ability to discover so that you locate, isolate means you locate it and

27:57
Connect with it and then disappear into that. When I say disappear, not like becoming an invisible man. Disappearance means without any attachment to your past. So you can experience the presence of this moment as a deepest intimacy right now without worrying about the future. So that is part of the greatest invitation we have to life.

28:24
And that’s something that we should always remember. But the setup is life is created in such a way from our births today we are challenged and provoked to recognize, acknowledge and appreciate many, many things that makes us humble, soft and gentle human beings.

28:49
openings of recognition, appreciation, acknowledgement and appreciation makes us realize that life is reverent and then only we can have a good time. The good times doesn’t come just only by having sex, money and power. They are essential ingredients for you to live and survive this life at its best. But also we need

29:17
the ability to really be grateful, to explode in our heart as a mindfulness, as an awareness that can unleash the emotional energies, physical energies, sensuous energies, intelligence and silence within us to connect with this awesome mystery called life and infinity. Because then only we can really feel

29:44
The beauty about life is that it happens to be you who is you. Otherwise you are always trying to change something or become somebody else. The greatest pleasure and the joy in life comes with the realization the best thing that happened to you in your life is that it happened to be you who is you. So then you become really a gateway and a window to see the infinity. And that my friends is an invitation.

30:14
This is an invitation for you to understand and acknowledge you have absolutely wonderful life and that no matter what has happened you can create and change any tribe and bring about an incredible fire into your heart that will illuminate the world around you so that actually when you can illuminate the world around you

30:41
It will not be only seen by your eyes, it will also be seen by the eyes of those you love. And that way hand in hand together like a flock of birds flying, we can hand in hand together illuminate this beautiful world and all the darkness and all the misery can disappear

31:04
It may not disappear forever because that’s the law of impermanency and the law of imperfection. However, just like a blue sky can be there for a moment, we can illuminate the world in whatever the degree and whatever the extent that we can and those ripples will last forever and it will be so beautiful

31:31
because then you have done something other than a personal pleasure and a joy of living. You have contributed to mankind. You have given back something for being born. And that, my friend, is in your heart. Thank you very much.
31:49
You have a website, don’t you, somewhere? Yeah, it’s called unconditionalwonder.com. Unconditionalwonder.com. Okay. Good, good, good. And that way people can be in touch. Yeah, sure. Well, I was right behind the camera and you were blasting me with all that. Yes, thank you. So that was wonderful. All right. And we will see you soon again.
